Build a Rewarding Career at Piscataqua Landscaping: A Q&A with Mike Franz, Construction Foreman

Ever wondered what it’s like to shape stone, craft stunning patios, and build landscapes that last a lifetime? At Piscataqua, our success isn’t a secret—it’s built by the hands of our incredible team. From landscaping to tree care to snow management, we’re proud to have some of the most skilled pros in the Seacoast, Southern Maine, and the NH Lakes Region.

Take Mike Franz, for example. As a Construction Foreman at Piscataqua for the past six years, he knows what it takes to become a mason. Listen as he shares how he got here and why he loves what he does.

Q: How have you found the business culture to be?
A: Piscataqua Landscaping has been an extremely enjoyable and encouraging environment during my tenure here. There have always been plenty of fulfilling projects and opportunities, along with the “family-first” mentality. The “family-first” approach offers time to book vacations with my son, and time management around school/doctors/dentist appointments. I find that very unique in the field.

Q: What is your favorite aspect around masonry?
A: No two jobs are ever the same. Each job is a challenge due to grade changes, materials, obstructions, mathematics, or even environmental impacts. The process of solving the situations to make the job run smooth, steady and safely always gives me a feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day.

Q: How did you end up at Piscataqua?
A: A good friend of mine, Lasha, offered to have me come aboard knowing that I would fit right in. I appreciate the opportunity he granted me.

Q: What project stands out?
A: There are so many projects that stand out! I have been on a lot of large jobs but the one that truly always stands out is one of the jobs we did on Governor’s Island. It entailed three massive, tiered walls on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee. We accomplished it through the dead of winter. Seeing the walls fully planted and from an aerial view drone-shot was a really big moment of pride.

Q: What is a fun fact about you?
A: I went to college for art and design. I have two four-year Bachelor’s degrees in Fine Arts and Graphic Design with a minor in art history. I’ve also had two different comic strips published in a series of small newspapers.

At Piscataqua Landscaping & Tree Service, we know our people are our greatest asset. And like Mike, everyone on our team takes pride in their craft and works hard to exceed client expectations. In return, we offer benefits that are unmatched in the industry, including year-round pay, health insurance programs, retirement plans, paid vacations and holidays, bonuses, and incentives. Landscaping can be demanding, challenging work, and we believe our employees should be well-compensated for their efforts. We also believe it’s important to foster a culture that’s fun, supportive, and encourages work-life balance.

We’re currently looking to add to our team at Piscataqua. If you enjoy working on diverse projects and thrive in an environment that values teamwork and flexibility, we want to hear from you
